Vitālijs Astafjevs (born 3 April 1971 in Riga) is a football midfielder from Latvia, currently playing for Skonto Rīga. He has played 160 international matches and scored 16 goals[1] for the Latvia national team. He debuted in 1992 when the national team was established, and played at the Euro 2004.

He started his career in FC Skonto, and has since played for Austria Vienna, Bristol Rovers F.C., where he is remembered as a cult hero for his impressive displays in a struggling team, Admira Wacker, Rubin Kazan and after that returned to FC Skonto.

He is one of the most capped active players at the moment. On November 14, 2009, Vitālijs made his 158th cap for Latvia, allowing him to surpass the record of the previously most capped European footballer, Martin Reim.
